She is playing Lady Macbeth??!!

Not surprisingly, Dame Judi Dench, has played Lady Macbeth. She co-starred in an critically acclaimed TV production of the play opposite Sir Ian McKellan in 1979.

In 1971, Roman Polanski made a version of Macbeth that is said to be the bloodiest version made. Lady Macbeth in that production was played by Francesca Annis. She is best known to many younger people as the partner of Ralph Finnes. Since Polanski's Macbeth she has appeared in numerous films and theatrical productions. One of her more notable roles was as Lady Jessica in the 1984 version of Dune.

Other actresses who have protrayed Lady Macbeth are Jeannette Nolan (the 1948 Orson Welles production), Sybil Thorndike (1922), Greta Scacchi (1998), Piper Laurie (1981, opposite Jeremy Brett), Barbara Leigh-Hunt (1988), Judith Anderson (1954), and Ruth Roman (1955).

Most of these woman have gotten excellent reviews as Lady Macbeth. Some, has gotten less than glowing reviews. Still, it is a role that many actresses would "kill" for. It is one of the most powerful roles for women in the history of film or theatre.
