Ornamental Grasses for Shade - Chasmanthium latifolium

As nice as the foliage is, the most attractive feature are the flowers and seedheads. These start out green and change to a warm tan with copper tints before becoming interesting celadon gray winter skeletons.

Each flat flower spike is 3/4 to one inch (1.90 - 2.54 cm) long. They start out vertical, but as they mature, their weight causes the stems to droop. This drooping habit is particularly lovely along a water's edge. So, if you've got a woodland stream or pond, this might be the perfect plant for you.

Seedhead In Blue. Pretty dramatic!

They are easily grown from seed or they can be divided in spring. They will seed around a bit, but generally not in an aggressive way.
