Hosta and Hydrangeas

Both The Crownsville Nursery and Bridgewood Gardens list twenty-six hydrangeas, but their lists are slightly different. If you are searching for a specific plant and you don't find it on one site, check the other one. The Crownsville Nursery lists about one hundred hosta, but the Bridgewood online catalog is devoted to them, Hydrangeas being the only other genus offered.

Since all the hydrangeas on my list are offered by Bridgewood, let's focus on Bridgewood Gardens, the hosta division of The Crownsville Nursery. They grow over four hundred varieties, with selections to suite the beginning hosta grower as well as the sophisticated hosta addict. It's a nursery that specializes in caring for gardeners, as they put it, "afflicted with Hostas".

Bridgewood Gardens is operated separately from The Crownsville Nursery, but owned by the same people.

Ordering Information will tell you everything you need to place orders via their secure on-line ordering system, or print out an order form to fax or snail mail to them. This section of the site also contains shipping information and details about purchasing plants at the Bridgewood Gardens garden center.

In addition to retail mailorder, they sell over two hundred varieties of Hosta wholesale, focusing on serving small growers who would like to offer a wide range of hostas but do not want to buy in large quantities or who would like plants larger than tissue culture liners.

They also have a FAQ page (Frequently Asked Questions) - visit this page before you shoot off that email full of questions. Note that you will need javascript enabled on your browser to navigate the site.

I tend to take gardening pretty seriously, but I delight in web sites and catalogs that reveal the owner/writer's sense of humor...such as:

"A warning to casual Hosta users:

Many of us, when we first started using Hostas, thought we could stop whenever we wanted. What begins as casual experimentation can quickly develop into a serious addiction. If you find that you actually want to know the differences between 'Inniswood' and 'Paul's Glory', if you tell your spouse that you paid less than you really did for a new introduction, but brag to other gardeners that you paid more, or if you no longer care what your spouse thinks, you need help."

And from the Everything Else section:
