Online Nurseries 2000 - Woodside Gardens

Sad News, 2002
Due to an auto accident, Pam West is no longer able to operate the nursery and sold it. Therefore, I've removed all the links, which either no longer worked or went elsewhere. There are some marvelous plants illustrated and described in the article, so I will leave it online for your enjoyment. You can likely find most of these plants elsewhere. If you fall in love with one of them and can't find a source, email me or post on my discussion and I'll try to find it for you.
Marge, Gardening in Shade

Woodside Gardens is a small, family operated nursery with a lovely list of plants. Browsing their web site was like being six years old and let loose in a candy store. My eyes were bigger than the space available to tell you about all the plants I lust for. I had a very tough time narrowing down selections to what still turned out to be a pretty substantial list, so I have split this article into two pages. I'm sure some of these plants will find themselves on your 'must have' list this spring.

Pamela West, owner of the nursery, has put their entire database online so you can see the wide range of plants they grow. Those that aren't currently available are noted as 'out of stock'.

The nice, fat paper catalog for $2.00) contains those that are on offer for spring shipping, plus all the information concerning visiting the nursery, shipping, size plants offered, etc. that is also on the web site.

You'll see Pamela and some of the staff on the web site, as well as a few of the animals that they raise in addition to plants. They have sheep, chickens, pigmy goats, geese and host a horse, lamas and a pet pot bellied pig. About twenty-five new lambs are expected imminently (spring is lambing season as well as planting season).

Visitors are welcome from March to November, seven days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you come, please leave your dogs at home - strange pet dogs and farm animals don't mix well. Both the catalog and the web site provide directions for reaching the nursery, including a map.

If you visit, you'll find greenhouses and cold frames full of neat rows of pots just waiting to go home with you - or wing their way to you via mailorder. The site has a shopping cart feature and secure online ordering, too. You'll need to have javascript enabled on your browser to navigate the listings.
