More Information

  • Dan Heims, plant breeder extraordinaire and proprietor of Terra Nova Nurseries, has written an excellent article,Pulmonaria in America, that you should read if you're interested in this grand shade garden genus. Not only that, but he lists and describes all the species/cultivars that are readily available in the US with links to photos of several of them.

These links are repeated from last week's article, just in case you missed it:

  • All websites aren't created equal. If you're curious about what I look for, check out the criteria I developed for last year's series about Online Nurseries - What's That Site Got?

  • If you are new to mailorder, read the Plants By Mail FAQ and see if the nursery you're interested in has received any comments from others who've ordered from them.

  • For the ultimate in lists of mailorder nurseries, as well as sources for other gardening needs, see Barbara Barton's Gardening By Mail which is finally online. This mammoth compilation has been in print for years, with periodic new editions to update the information. I've got at least three of them in my library.

  • The Suite's own Carol Wallace (Virtually Gardening) maintains a huge list of sources for plants and seeds on her personal web site.

Gardening in Shade is just one of the forty (and more coming) different gardening topics you can visit here on Suite 101, covering everything from annuals to zucchini.
