The main point is that all involved in the green world need to comment and all of us who care about our ability to acquire and grow new taxa without going through onerous regulatory hoops need to comment.

This issue is the single most important one to ever confront the horticultural world.

What's The Deadline and How Can I Submit My Comments?

Originally, the public comment period ended on March 10, 2005. It has been extended until Tuesday, April 11, 2005. While this is still too short a period to get the word out to all those affected, it is better than no extension. But, time is short, so please find the time in your busy lives to digest the proposals and send in your comments before the end of the public comment period.

Comments can be submitted by postal mail, commercial delivery, e-mail or using the form on the docket site:

Via snail mail or delivery service:

Send an original and three copies of postal mail or commercial delivery comments to:

Docket No. 03-069-1
Regulatory Analysis and Development
PPD, APHIS, Station 3C71
4700 River Road
Unit 118
Riverdale, MD 20737-1238

Via email: E-mail comments to regulations@aphis.usda.gov.

E-mail comments must be contained in the body the message; do not send attached files. Please include your name and address in the body of the message and type "Docket No. 03-069-1" on the subject line.

Use this link to the page where you can submit comments online and read those already submitted.

Click on any of the 'submit comment' links and follow instructions. If you have a long comment (over 2000 characters) compose it in your word processor and send it as an attachment - see the instructions on the submit comment pages for the types of files they can accept. It will then be posted online as a .pdf file.

It is very important that everyone in the nursery or green industry get busy and read this document and submit your comments to APHIS. Their actions are going to affect your business and you might as well let them know just how their proposals will affect you before the fact rather than after the fact when it is too late for your comments to do any good.

Aw, What I Think Won't Make A Difference

I am sure that most of us have run smack up against the brick wall of bureaucracy at one time or another.

If everyone assumes they can make no difference, they will not.
