Enterprise Enters Phase II

Wednesday night Star Trek fans celebrated the long-awaited premier
of Enterprises second season. Shockwave, Part II picked
up where last seasons finale left off, with Captain Archer stranded in
a decimated 31st-century San Francisco. The episode served double duty as resolution
to the cliffhanger that ended season one and as further development of the Temporal
Cold War plot that promises to run through the series in much the same way that
the Federation-Dominion conflict developed on Deep Space Nine. Thats
a lot for a one-hour show to handle. Was it a success?
Overall, Shockwave upped the ante on Enterprises production
and development. The show has matured and looks to be on its way to a great
run. As plot development for the Temporal Cold War thread, it did a good job.
As resolution for the cliffhanger, however, Shockwave, Part II took
the unfortunate easy way out and things just kind of turned out for the best
with little explanation.
The fascinating ideas that were the framework for this episode were not sufficiently
fleshed out, leaving a lingering feeling of what could have been. The insurrection
to retake the ship was nice, but it was never clear whether this was part of
