Speculon publishes Science Fiction, Fantasy, and cross-genre short stories. They aren't interested in horror or exceptionally dark fantasy, although they will look at Dark SF. They also are interested in well-written, innovative speculative poetry, which includes science fiction, horror, fantasy, mythic, surreal, and "slipstream" poems.
Speculon is a professional rate magazine. It is well- constructed, neat, with understated, clean colors. The ficiton is eerie and thoughtful, and the poetry is compelling. The site is a bit difficult to navigate, since there are buttons on the left which are actually hidden links, and several of the links don't go anywhere. There is no masthead. If the links worked, maybe the "About" section would provide the information subscribers and submitters need, but as it is, you sort of have to figure it out for yourself. Still, the stories, poems and articles are well-edited and professionally presented. They make a huge deal about not wanting artwork. Personally I love the art that accompanies stories, so I find the site much poorer for the lack of it.
