Aphelion Appeals to the SensesAphelion SF/F Webzine has been around since 1997, which may make it one of the grand old beings of the Internet. It is the successor to Dragon's Lair, which is now defunct, but was excellent in its time. The name Aphelion comes from the SF fanzine published by the University of Georgia Science Fiction Appreciation and Discussion Club. Aphelion is another slick webzine, with a dynamite cover as snappy and professional as any print magazine. In fact the entire site is a balm to the eyes as well as the imagination. The stories I read are exceptionally well written and edited, the poetry is lovely and well-presented. Aphelion has a cartoon page with a really funny comic strip, it has editorials, reviews, chats and features. About the only thing it doesn't have is artwork. But somehow, it's hardly missed, and from this artist and voracious art 'appreciatist' that's high praise. Aphelion does not bill itself as horror, but within the February edition, I read one of the most horrific stories I have ever read... it was disgusting, riveting, and brilliantly written. I'm pretty sure Aphelion does not pay. However, the number of awards the magazine has garnered are proof to its endurance and its excellence. The quality of webzines is getting better and better. Aphelion, appropriately, belongs on the A list. Visit Aphelion at http://www.aphelion-webzine.com/
