anotherealm just earned another star, in my opinion. This electronic magazine of speculative fiction, which is available as a webzine or an e-zine (via EMail) is sharp, distinctive, classy, and easily navigated. Their main focus is on their stories, and rightly so, since this is a magazine of speculative fiction. The stories in Volume 3, January to March, are varied and interesting. Many, in a bow to Valentine's Day, lean toward the romantic, but that's fine with me. I like a little romance with my speculative fiction.
The Members' Area is a newsgroup-type discussion list. The U-Review BBS appears to be more of the same. Writer's Helpers is a page of links about language, sociology, folklore, etc. The Editorial Page is a friendly page of introduction of the editors, and the webmaster, and is a combination editorial/ and welcome page. On the submission guidelines page, the friendliness of the zine continues with introductions of the fiction editors as well as what they're looking for in fiction. The magazine is up-front and apologetic about its less than professional pay rates for fiction, but then it's also a free zine. The masthead provides all the information needed to see that this is a professionally wrought effort by Jean Goldstrom, editor and publisher, and Steve Tully, webmaster. EMail apparently goes to mailto:editor@anotherealm.com or to mailto:webmaster@anotherealm.com I invite you to step into anotherealm. You will not be disappointed.
