Never underestimate the power of pressing. It can do as much to guarantee good results as any sewing technique. The key to obtaining a "custom appearance" is to press as you sew and then press again when the garment is finished.
It's a good idea to keep your ironing equipment set up while you're assembling a garment. Then it takes only an extra minute or two to press darts, seams, facings and other details as soon as they are sewn and before they are joined to another piece. Remember to: - press on the wrong side - use an up and down motion - lift the iron, don't push it. - press with the grain of the fabric, from bottom to top - experiment on a scrap of fabric to obtain correct setting.
