The summer is dwindling away for many of us and we approach the fall, our thoughts will soon be turning to Christmas. Then the inevitable question, "what do I get for so-and-so who has everything? Instead of going to the mall, why not turn to your sewing machine?
With only 4 months to go, now is the time to go to the fabric store and get some fabric on their summer clear out sales and begin planning what to make as gifts. You can never go wrong getting some nice calico or country prints but try to get two that coordinate with one another at the same time. Then you won't have to worry about matching pieces and rushing to the fabric store because nothing you have at home goes with that print. Take a look at the sewing patterns in the craft and home decor sections. There are many kitchen helpers, decorative dolls, baskets, bags, and doll clothes that could be suitable for someone on your list. Do some "pattern book" shopping and start collecting the materials and supplies you need now in order to avoid a big spending spree later on. Not to mention having to burn the midnight oil at the sewing machine days before christmas to get everything done. Bottom line, start pacing yourself now and slowly but surely get the projects finished. Many people do have most everything they need and are truly hard for whom to buy. just another trinket, the key is that you took the time to make it yourself for this person. You crafted it using their favorite colors or decor colors to make this something special. When they know you made it yourself and took the time and effort to do it for them, that makes the gift all that more of a memorable keepsake.
