King of Kings and Lord of LordsWith so many natural disasters occurring in such a short time span, it is not unusual for the human mind to turn to thoughts of what this all might be leading to. There are many theories and philosophies - and prophecies - concerning how and if and when the world as we know it might end. I am not going to make any attempt to compare or contrast all those lines of thought about end-time events. What I am going to do is share with you some insights I gleaned from a recent Sabbath School lesson I had the privilege of teaching about the second coming of Jesus Christ. Primarily, I concentrated upon the certainty of His return and the nature of His return based on some specific Bible verses. The Certainty of Christ's Return The key verses I studied for this aspect of His return are John 14:1-6. (http://www.studylight.org/desk/?query=jo... From these verses we can draw a number of conclusions about the certainty of Christ's return. First, Jesus has already come once. Few historians dispute that a man named Jesus walked on this earth during a specific time in history. Some do not recognize Him as the Son of God but they do recognize His presence in history. Why would He go to all the trouble to come the first time and suffer untold pain and death if He didn't have a clear plan for what He is going to do to complete His mission? Second, Jesus believed that He would return. He tells His disciples, "I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me..." He would not have said this to His disciples if He did not believe it Himself. Jesus will come again personally - not His angels, nor the Spirit, but "this same Jesus" (Acts 1:9-11) will return for His children. He tells us He has gone to prepare a place for us in heaven and He tells us that we know where He is going and how to get there - He is the way. We must know Him personally as He truly is and live our lives as closely to His example as we are able. The Nature of His Return In Matthew 24:23-27, 30 & 31 (http://www.studylight.org/desk/?l=en&que... and 1 Thessalonians 4:16&17 (http://www.studylight.org/desk/?query=1t... we gain an understanding of what His return will look like.
