Christ's Atonement

A key aspect of SDA belief is the belief in the atoning purpose of Jesus Christ's life, death, and resurrection. Through Jesus' perfect life here on earth - and as God among us in human form - His life serves as the means by which God and man can be reconciled to one another once more. In John 12:32, Jesus says, "But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself." This means that His death on the cross and ultimate resurrection is the way all men come to God. When we understand and believe what took place on the cross we will naturally be drawn to God. " This perfect atonement vindicates the righteousness of God's law and the graciousness of His character; for it both condemns our sin and provides for our forgiveness. The death of Christ is substitutionary and expiatory, reconciling and transforming. The resurrection of Christ proclaims God's triumph over the forces of evil, and for those who accept the atonement assures their final victory over sin and death.
