A More Detailed Look at the Trinity – Part 1, God the Father

The concept of the Godhead or Trinity deserves a closer look - specifically a look at each member of the Trinity. Fundamental Beliefs Three, Four, and Five discuss each member of the Godhead, so, let's look at the biblical basis for Seventh-day Adventist beliefs on each. Part 1 is a continued study of the article, "Who Do Seventh-day Adventists Worship - One God in the Entity of the Trinity," and gives more specific detail to SDA belief in God the Father. I will not include detailed comparisons of other denominations in this article. Please refer to the article on the Trinity, http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/seve... for comparison link references.

I also want to refer you to an excellent discussion of the Trinity at this web location: http://www.dawsonville-sda.org/TheHealin...

The Father Seventh-day Adventists believe in God the Father and believe He is "the Creator, Source, Sustainer, and Sovereign of all creation." http://www.adventist.org/beliefs/fundame... Some of the characteristics that He embodies include being just, holy, merciful, gracious, slow to anger, and steadfast love and faithfulness. Any characteristics that Jesus embodied or that are attributed to the Holy Spirit also apply to God the Father.

Biblical Verification

The biblical basis for this, the Third Fundamental Belief of the Seventh-day Adventist Church is found in the following seven Scriptures. Quotations are from the New International Version.

Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."

Revelation 4:11 "You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being."

1 Corinthians 15:28 "When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all."

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

1 John 4:8 "Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love."

1 Timothy 1:17 "Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen."

Exodus 34:6, 7 "And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, 'The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, 7 maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation.'"
