Who Seventh-day Adventists Worship – One God in the Entity of the TrinitySeventh-day Adventists believe in one God. This God exists as a unified entity of three co-eternal Persons: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit. This three-person entity is sometimes referred to as the Godhead. We believe He is infinite, immortal, all-powerful (omnipotent), all knowing (omniscient), and ever present (omnipresent). As such, God is basically beyond our human understanding since we live in a finite world ordered by a concept of time with a beginning, middle, and end. However, we, as humans, may learn as much as we are humanly capable of learning about God through His Word, the Holy Bible through which He reveals His ongoing love and care for us individually and our world as a whole. We believe the ultimate revelation of God's character is through the life of Jesus, God the Son. A more specific description of Seventh-day Adventist beliefs relating to each member of the Godhead follow in the next three articles. Biblical Verification The biblical basis for this, the Second Fundamental Belief of the Seventh-day Adventist Church is found in the following seven Scriptures. Quotations are from the New International Version. Deuteronomy 6:4, "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one." Matthew 28:19, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit," 2 Corinthians 13:14, "May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all." Ephesians 4:4-6, "There is one body and one Spirit - just as you were called to one hope when you were called - one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all." 1 Peter 1:2, "who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance." 1 Timothy 1:17, "Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen." Revelation 14:7, "He said in a loud voice, "Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water." Comparison with Other Denominations The belief in the Trinity or Godhead is shared with several denominations. The Baptist, Church of God, Episcopal, Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian, Catholic, and Messianic Jewish denominations all share the belief with Seventh-day Adventists that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and the guidebook for our salvation. Here are the resource links for each of these denominations that give the complete statement of their belief about the Bible.
