The only screening that I regularly have is yearly screening for breast cancer. Having said that, this year I became a believer in other mobile screenings. That is what this article is about.Did you know that there are various mobile screening units which regularly visit neighborhoods in most states? In fact Life Line Screening came to my area on June 24, 2005. (Yes, I was screened! I made an early appointment per toll-free number right away as space was limited). Life Line Screening uses only advanced colorflow ultrasound technology and experienced highly skilled sonographers. A board certified physician, who is fully insured and licensed to practice in the states, reviews and confirms all screening results before returning them to you in 14 to 21 days.
Life Line Screening screens for four diseases:
- For Osteoporosis--Ultrasound Bone Densitometry, provides quantitative assessment of the skeleton using the heel as a measurement site to determine the estimated bone mineral density (BMD). It is particularly useful for identifying those at risk of developing osteoporosis as well as fracture risk.
- For Stroke and Carotid Artery Fatty Plaque Buildup (the leading cause of strokes)--examination of the bilateral carotid arteries with Doppler Color Flow Ultrasound Imaging to visualize fatty plaque buildup. It measures the velocity of blood flow to the brain.
- For Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm--Ultrasound to screen the abdominal aorta and iliac vasculature which allows for observation and detection of an enlargement or weak area that could lead to a rupture.
- Peripheral artery disease--measures the ankle arm pressure index which shows normal or abnormal plaque buildup of the arteries supplying the lower extremities.
These screenings are painless, non-invasive, accurate and affordable. Affordability is important since Medicare does not cover screening cost at present. You may take only one screening or choose the complete package of four. My four screenings took slightly less than 30 minutes. Refreshments were offered following the screenings.
Check out the next screenings in your area and consider signing up. It may be one of the smartest life-preserving moves of your life!
You do not need a doctor's order for mobile screenings. If any of the above second, third, or fourth screenings warrant emergency action, customers are advised to contact their personal physician immediately.
