Machines - good or evil?

Another machine I obviously am not going to throw out anytime soon is this computer. The computer uses a lot of power, no doubt and I feel rather guilty about that. But this machine enables me to write, to reach people, to find like minds and this further enriches my life and inspires me to try harder in this endeavour of mine. Not to mention it being a fabulous learning tool for the children. So, the computer stays too.

I guess in conclusion, machines can have their place in the self reliant lifestyle. There are gadgets I have no interest in - electric hair curlers, irons, foot baths, powered toothbrushes, dishwashers and the like, but those I do have I use to their full capacity and they help me to be more resourceful. The ideal of course, would be to have solar or wind power set up (that is my next dream...), as this would minimise impact and guilt on my part and be so cost effective.

My advice with regards to machines? Decide which you can really live without - you would be suprised! Keep and enjoy those that get you through the day, but maybe attempt to minimise their use. When using a stove to cook a casserole, it takes no longer to cook a double or even triple batch. This reduces the need to cook on two other nights and helps you use your freezer to capacity also. If you apply this logic to all of your machines you will soon sort out which are worth keeping :)

Happy times!
