If you're not sure what type of paper to even ask for, then ask your printer for a swatch or sampling of the different types of paper and cover stocks available. Their suppliers usually supply them with a listing or notebook of what they can provide. If they don't have a sample in stock, ask them if they can get a sample for the supplier.

Get to know your printer. If they aren't willing to assist you, take that as a clue to search elsewhere. This is an extremely important decision to make about the production of your book. Take your time and ask lots of questions.
