Lina,
This essay is about how I use my accomplishments to help the community. But first I would like to tell you about my angel that came to me by way of a fur coat and four paws. His name is Tagert and with out his help I would not be doing what it is I am doing now. Tagert is my seizure alert service dog. He knows 10-20 minutes a head of time when I am going to have a seizure. That gives me time to prepare for this. unfourtunilty as of right now I can not stop it from happening But it is time for me to lock my doors. You see I do not have Grand Mals as everyone is aware of. I have complex partials also known as walk arounds. I just go into a fog and walk away from wherever I am. Now that is very dangerous. I can walk out into traffic or down a flight of stairs or any other dangerous situations by not knowing I am going anywhere. Tagert keeps me safe by keeping me where I am at. He does this by walking in front of me so I cannot leave. When I first got Tagert I had a lot of trouble going out into the public. Stores would stop me and ask Why I have a dog with me "you are not blind." So I would explain. Well the first thing they do is look at the floor, as though I am going to have a grand Mall right there. I got tired of everyone not knowing that there were other seizures besides them. Well I got to thinking about this after the umpteenth time of explaining this. I asked myself what could I do about this? Hey Why not go out and tell the people about Epilepsy and seizure alert dogs. Educate the kids and adults about these most wonderful dogs and about epilepsy and how it affects one's life. Maybe help someone who may need one but did not know these dogs were out there. So I give Lectures at school's, Churches' Organization and Business's. Really anywhere that anyone will listen. Education is the key to learning and learning and Knowing about epilepsy is long over due. I also Help on two epilepsy support groups and two service dog support groups. I help by listening first and if I can I give advice I do or I help by sending someone one of the links I have saved. I save quite a few and always looking for more incase I run into Go To Page: 1 2
