House Of the Dead better on PC?

© Ryan Newman

House Of The Dead is amazing in the arcade but when it hit the Saturn its release was limited and was marred by bad reviews due to the gritty and grainy graphics. However with the stunner the fun was left intact but what made HOTD so unique in the arcades was the plushness and softness of the zombie's skin when you would shoot them.

With that gone, it was Virtua Cop with dead beings and the ability to blow limbs, heads, and chests into and off of beings. This was not enough for many gamers. Since the Saturn was pretty much dead there was no place to rent it or even buy it unless you were lucky enough to find it in a store, most commonly it was bought as a import from Internet dealers.

Well, one day I get the demo for computer...ooohhhh it is NICE..even though it uses the mouse I still found it to be a very enjoyable experience with excellent graphics and sound effects. Some may argue that, since it will commonly be used with the mouse and not a lightgun, it will not be as fun. Well, it is, let me tell you. However, I know some people say they didn't like it because of that reason, even thought they never tried it - or at least most haven't.

But to find out for yourself check out Sega Of America in multimedia and downloads for the demo. I first played on a Pentium 90mhz with 48 edo ram and it was a little choppy in 640x480 but semi smooth in 320x200 - even that choppy many I know still enjoyed it. Now on my PII 300mhz, 64MB syncdram, and with a d3d accelerator it is even more enjoyable...so check it out!!!
