Christmas Wish List Recommendations© Ryan Newman
Christmas is coming up and you know what that means! Of course, of course, time with the family, but you know what else I'm talking about..that's right, some gaming goodness! With time off work, school, or both, and the chance to pick up some swanky games - for free! - and the time to play them, this should be a most joyous holiday season for you all!
If you have purchased a new console, welp, here are my recommendations. I will also give out some Dreamcast and Saturn title recommendations as well, because we can all stand to play a bit more of the classics, no? Nintendo GameCube Pikmin (Nintendo)- Yes, this little strategy title is not only oh-so-cute, but very additive. Use flowers to battle the various beasts in a garden and to repair your ship so that you can fly off of the world and back home. Yes, it looks simple, and dare I say.."kiddie".. but, that is so far from the truth. Well, ok, so it isn't THAT far from the truth, but the fact of the matter is that this is a fantastic game that has a lighthearted look and feel to it. It is definitely one that should not be missed. Super Monkey Ball (Sega)- Really now, it has monkeys rolling around in balls, do you need anything more? This is a fantastic title from our very own Sega that cranks out a ton of multiplayer options like monkey racing and bowling, along with several other modes, that come together to bring one of the most enjoyable titles to have come out in quite some time. A very pleasant surprise and it's fun to play all by your lonesome too! Microsoft Xbox Project Gotham Racing (Bizarre)- This is the follow up to Metropolis Street Racer for the Dreamcast and it fixes all of the problems of its predecessor and is just one incredible game. If you don't dig the Kudos point system at first, give it time and play through the fantastic courses, it is an extremely solid racer that shouldn't be missed. Halo (Bungie) - While not as mind-blowing as most sites would have you believe, it's still a fun game. With an excellent co-op mode, a good deal of multiplayer options, it's only hampered by a short single player experience and lack of bot support. Aside from one horrid level, it's one wild ride. Sony PlayStation 2 Ring of Red (Konami) - Ok, ok, so the PlayStation 2 isn't new, but it's new enough for the article. Back to the game: Ring of Red is an excellent turn-based mech strategy game that has a very unique approach. The robots get a small allotment of troops that they can deploy once in combat and they will provide miscellaneous support that can make a big difference. The main combat is an interesting aspect, the mech can only go forward or backwards, however, the player controls the main gun and can either wait until the accuracy gets higher, or fire. If you wait to fire, then the enemy could get off 2 shots, but if you wait and get a sturdy hit, it can be all over. The strategy is the timing; waiting for the wobbly gun to straighten, troop movement, and overall movement of your robots - a true classic. Go To Page: 1 2
