Xbox Impressions - Week 1© Ryan Newman
Hello gamers! Welcome back! Now that the new system roundup has been completed, I want to say that I hope some of you took something informative from them. Now then, I have gotten an Xbox and thought I would post my thoughts about some of the titles out now for it. Here we go:
System: HUGE.. this thing is very large and very heavy. Be careful where you put it, if it fell off a shelf or placeholder it could easily break whatever it falls on. It is also a bit gaudy with a huge X on the top and a green orb in the center. The CD loader is a tray that comes out of the right side and DVD capabilities are only available with the DVD kit (a sensor and remote) that sells for around $35; according to recent reviews, it has excellent picture quality. Controller: Very bulky, awkward button placement, but surprisingly comfortable, even after long periods of play. There are two buttons (black and white, clear) that are at the far right that can be troublesome as they are easy to miss. The buttons seemed to be placed farther to the right from the right analog than one would expect so there will be plenty of times the wrong button will be pressed. Games Most of the games come with option to play demos of other games and watch movies of other titles – very cool. Halo: Excellent title that only suffers in the end when it becomes monotonous, but thankfully it picks up in the very end. Offers excellent co-op modes and deathmatch play, well worth picking up another controller for; no bot support though, all those cool deathmatch modes can only be played with other humans – bummer. The game lasts about 10-13 hours with only multiplayer left to offer replay value. Lately guides have come out allowing for online play for those with broadband connection and a hub. Overall, an excellent title that is fantastic for about 8 hours (based on 10 hours of play) with only 2 that are poor due to bad level design and repetitious use of the same monsters, that is only one part though and it’s smooth sailing again after that. Dead or Alive 3: Aside from new characters, the game is essentially unchanged from 2. More interaction with objects on the combat field offer little, aside from the electric fence and hot pipes that hurt opponents when hit into them, the levels are fantastic and characters, for the most part, have undergone good redesigns. Note to parents: the females are still heavy in the chest and have skimpy outfits. This plays and feels more like Dead or Alive 2.5 rather than a full-on sequel. If you got it in a bundle it’ll be something to kill time, if not, skip it if you have 2. Go To Page: 1 2
