Capcom VS SNK 2 - Millionaire Fighting 2001 (Import) Review

Well, the sequel to one of the most anticipated games manages to fulfill the wishes of its predecessor. With the ratio system in the first, many SNK characters were weakened and the whole game played more like a strategy title, of managing to try to get the maximum power with particular characters given the numbers of slots, and there was also a heavy emphasis on secrets. I happened to enjoy the first and the various secrets, but many felt that they deterred from what the game could have really been.

It is with great pleasure that I say that the sequel is exactly what one would expect from such a clash of titans. The sole ratio system is gone and replaced by set numbers, such as, a single match, a 3 on 3, or ratio (for those who enjoyed the first). There is also a disregard for the secret-laden original and the lack of EX players, whom many felt unbalanced the game even further. Present, we have all of 44 characters (with 2 additional hidden), 6 grooves as opposed to the original’s 2 and with a vast difference that helps to greatly lengthen gameplay, and a wealth of additional modes.

The color mode returns with the name changing option along with some other fan favored. Finally, a good training mode has made its way into the realm of Capcom fighters, complete with a good number of options for the ‘dummy’ to perform as, as well as a command list. There is also a survival mode that consists of fighting over and over, or going through all of the characters of the game. Unfortunately, there is a network mode, which we in the US can’t partake in; this is a great loss as online Capcom/SNK title is long overdue. So with the secret shop mode taken out, there has been more than enough put in to satisfy fighting-hungry gamers.

The graphics feature excellent 3D backgrounds with 2D character that ranges from nice to just plain ugly. Some sprites are taken from the original and look fine, some look mildly out of place, while others like Morrigan look way out of place. The sound is also in the same vein as the songs don’t really belong in a fighter, but they are very catchy. While they are both mixed bags, the special effects for graphics look fantastic and some of the songs are undeniably catchy, earning them both good marks.
