Upcoming DC Trio gaming infoThere is a trio of Dreamcast games that are about to come out, so get your controllers ready. Here is a rundown on some of the upcoming games:
Soldier of Fortune: A semi-successful title on the PC that was renown for its violence and gore. While it might have been an average title on the PC, it fares a much better chance on the Dreamcast since consoles aren’t fortunate enough to get even a smidge of first-person shooters released on the PC. Being released through Crave, gamers will get to play as John Mullins, a real life mercenary. This time you’re out to take down a ruthless terrorists group that is bent on destruction. I hope the controls are tweaked well, if so, this could fare a much better chance this time around and could even come off as a sleeper hit. If you’re a fan of the genre, there is no question you will try this.
Heavy Metal: Geomatrix: Being released from Capcom, gamers will get to chose from 12 Nano-Gladiators as they battle it out in a Geomatrix featuring a post-apocalypse motif. This is pretty much an action-only title that seems to be along the same lines of Virtual On (in style). At only $19.99, it’s a sure bet that you will get more than your moneys worth.
Outrigger: Another first-person shooter from one of Sega’s very own renowned development team. From the demo, the game is either first or third person with blistering fast action and, more importantly, online play! Yep, this puppy has plenty of solo and online play for all those that have an itch to rattle a buddy’s polygon representation of a body with bullets. Here’s a bit of the official word: “Assume the role of an elite member of the ICTS (International Counter Terrorism Special Forces) and battle with all manner of wrong doers - from bloodthirsty terrorism factions to lawless crime syndicates.” (www.ebgames.com). This title is a bit off, but is still one that should be looked forward to. Welp, there you have it. As you can see, the Dreamcast is still being support, and while it might not have the support we would like, we should still enjoy the titles still being put out. Especially upcoming titles with online play, it is still encouraging to see that the full benefits of Sega’s latest wonder system are still being taken advantage of. On a plus note, the US is even getting titles that are cancelled in Japan – this is a VERY rare occurrence. So go out and give the latest Dreamcast games a look, it’s still alive and kicking…and I’m sure it would love some attention.
