Classic Reviews: Sega Rally

Well, as promised, here is a second review of a fantastic Saturn game.

Sega Rally Championship
Publisher: Sega Of America/ Sega Sports

Sega Rally is the definition of a game that was done and done right! This is a perfect arcade port from the arcades straight to your Saturn (aaahhh the glory days of Model 2). The graphics are perfect and so is the control; there is little to no polygon breakup and the control of turning how your car turns while you are sliding on the dirt with your speedy car. The only gripe is that there are not enough tracks, there are 3 and 1 secret one, even though this is an average amount, the game is so good you just want more!

When this game was released, it was one in a line of many titles that are released simultaneously to form a sort of "line-up." With Sega Rally was Virtua Fighter 2, Virtua Cop and World Series Baseball 2. Each one of these games have earned great reviews and all have been bestsellers. All of them are either arcade perfect ports (or very close to), or a made for Saturn game. They are all Saturn Exclusives, and this pushed many to buy a Saturn (this is what convinced me to buy mine) even though it was $199.99 and is $149.99 (and in many cases you can still get the three free games). I still feel that I made a good purchase.

I have rented Rally and spent numerous hours playing it, alone and with friends (by the way this game gets a lot of oohhhs and aahhs from friends).

And speaking of playing with friends, this is a fantastic racer in two-player mode. The game doesn't slow down nor experience polygon break ups. Also, even though it is still split-screen, you can still view and control your car perfectly even though the screen is split up into to halves. Which is one of the few racers to use the two-player mode via split screen.

Also, now some Saturn units are being sold with Rally. I have also seen a couple units sold with NiGHTS, but you don't see'em too often. (Now the unit is around $199 with either game. In some cases, you can still get the three games free, if the retailor still has them in stock.) Now there is going to be a Net Link-friendly Rally called Sega Rally Plus. And now you can buy a Saturn and Net Link with keyboard with Rally Plus for
