In recent months there have been some Dreamcast titles that have had surprising sales, but not enough units to cover the fanbase. Virtual On: OT was a prime example of a title that wasn't expected to sell well and ended up selling out at a majority of retailers. Even after more shipments the title is still scarce and this limits the title's potential. With Virtual On selling poor on the Saturn, there is some understanding on the cautious view on VOOT, but after intial sells the game is still not being backed. Many gamers snatched up this jewel very quickly, leaving those who had not pre-ordered searching various shops and sites in hopes of stumbling across it. With its full potential realized and the sales numbers to back it up, many other publishers might pick up some of the better imports to give them a chance here..

On the domestic side, Virtual Tennis has been a blockbuster. Who would have thought a tennis game would sell? I didn't and neither did Sega with most stores getting a reported 4-6 copies and a few more for pre-orders. After selling out of the first 50,000 units Sega is now shipping more to eager gamers. This is indeed a great step and helps to show that even lesser known titles can still get a great push because of its gameplay.

So, do you think the lack of units could be halting the progression of the Dreamcast? Let me hear your thoughts; post your views on the message board and discuss your position.
