The Sega Depot
http://www.consolegaming.com/~segadepot/ When first receiving Biohazard/Resident Evil: Code Veronica I was expecting some more RE goodness that I have come to know and love. I still fondly remember being completely floored by the first, letdown by the second, and then had the 3rd come back with a vengence and make me fall in love with the series again. The constant relentless danger, very cool mini game, and new control additions really added alot to the earlier games.. so Code Veronica had alot to live up to. When starting, the game has quite a nice intro that really gets you pumped to play the game. You'll notice that.. hey.. it looks like the Playstation versions but without the jagged edges. Like most Dreamcast games, it looks like a computer game with ultra high resolutions. Keep in mind that I dont have S-Video or a VGA Box so what I see is what anyone else with a normal hook up would see. The backgrounds are fairly nice looking and the monsters ranged from normal run of the mill to very realistic. The first group you meet are very creepy. Throughout the first disc I was neither amazed nor let down by what I saw, it was just standard Resident Evil fanfare. The biggest complaint that I have has to be with the controls... they completely went off the mark here. Capcom took out the sidestep feature from 3 and also the way you could control yourself going up stairs, causing the game feels like the first two. Now you won't really be all that affected until you are shooting at an approaching zombie only to be unable to back up, since backing up requires you turning around and running. You will most likely have to take the damage and then kill it. So put 3 or 4 zombies in this equation and you can see how frustration can set in. On a better note, the camera angles seem more functional than before. Well, I am done with disc 1 and well into
disc 2. So far I would have to say that as far as adventure games go, it is hands down the best. But in terms of the Dreamcast
power and the Resident Evil franchise, it could have done so much more...
here's hoping that disc 2 picks up and the mini games blow my mind.. The Sega Depot Go To Page: 1
