In this article, I am taking the opportunity to share an experience I had at a local Funcoland. Now, where I live, we just got an EB about 8 months ago so a new videogame store is something nice to have. Well, I have always heard bad things about the store and had seen a couple but never took the time to go to any until now.
Well, my first stop was, of course, the Saturn games. When I saw it, it was a lovely sight, about 8 rows of Saturn games, from Fighters Megamix to Quake...games I had not seen around here in years. (Finding ANY saturn games here is nearly impossible, even though Walmart still has Panzer Dragoon 1 for $59.95). So I look but there is no prices...well its a new store even though they have been open for some weeks now, they are still unpacking...no big deal. Finally I spot it, a small newspaper with all their prices. I go on over and check them out. Now I am not only a gamer but also a collector, my first choice was of course, Last Bronx for $7.99. After much debating about which game to get (I also took the condition of the manual and case into consideration heavily since they are very hard to find or replace), I decided to get Baku Baku as well for my girlfriend. A few moments before I had asked the clerk if he had any Virtua Fighter Kids, since I only need this one to complete my Virtua Fighter collection. I was willing to pay a high price. So I talk to him and he says they have only a few fighters, one was Battle Monsters. He takes out a small case, the size of a cd case (case like a music cd case or Dreamcast cd case) but instead its plastic. Do I get the box with it?", I asked. Sorry man, we just have the game he responds. Well, nevermind that it was $3.99. I am sure I can find it with case and manual new for around $5 or $6 on ebay, so I go back and make one last look through the games. By this time I had checked prices, manuals and games about 15 times to make sure this was exactly what I wanted. Finally, I'm ready to make my purchase I am at the counter and hand the clerk the cases and he says Oh you know what, I dont think we have any Last Bronx in anymore. Nope, we sure don't he said after a pause from looking. Now there were 2 Last Bronx cases on their shelves yet they dont have it in. I was a bit mad at this, since I really wanted to play it and that was a very good price, but I forgot about it. Then he said, hmmm I think we have 1 Baku left. He took the game out, in the same plastic cd case and put it on the table. "I don't get the case or manual with it?" I asked. Sorry, those are for display purposes only, but i'll see if I have a manual........nope, sorry no manual. Well, there were also 2 cases for Baku Baku with the manuals included. So now, here I am, I spent all this time making sure I got games that had nice manuals and with cases with as little damage as possible only to be told that 1 game isnt in and the other I had to pay $9.99 for and get some feeble plastic cd case when they have 2 on the shelves.
