DC's Modem

As many or all might know the Dreamcast has an internal modem so that it may take the huge niche markey of muliplaying from the computer the to home console. The pc had done well on it's own but when they becamse more accessable and modems became faster the multiplaying took off and is what made the pc so hugely popular. Such games as Warcraft 2, Descent, Quake and programs like Kali and Kahn helped to propell it into a phenomanel status.

Sega had tried to take advantage of this market with the Netlink for the Saturn but they hardly supported it and eventually it fell through. Well now, we have the Dreamcast with its modem and software built in and ready for play. The Netlink had very few titles that supported it but since it came out when the Saturn was going down and the DC has yet to be released here and is already getting great word of mouth it will already be riding high and most likely many games will have the option already in to play online (unlike the Netlink games having different versions like Virtual On and Daytona CCE).

Now if Sega plays their cards right they could have made one of their best decisions yet including a modem. In many cases a PC game could be horrible but when played online over a server or network it takes on a whole new dimension since you are fighting other humans and if the mulitplayer is good the game will sell even if the single player is not all there. The same could be said about DC games, so even if a game is not all what it could be, it could still sell well. And money is something Sega has not been seeing alot of lately. Not to mention, never before has multiplaying from a console been so easy and accessable. There is no add on's to buy or extra software to purchase it is all built in.

The modem is easily over looked in the DC's description, but if you play alot of pc games online then you know how much better a game can be against other humans. It can add years to the life of a game, there are still many people playing Warcraft 2 now after it has been out for over 3 years. So any DC title you buy will have this same affect, as long as the option is put in and time taken out to tweak the mulplayer mode to perfection. So keep that in mind when purchasing a DC, there is more than just a few games to play, it has a bright future and the modem makes it so much more. Let me know your thoughts on anything Iv written, thanks.
