June Wedding Keepsake

The month of June holds so much promise for crafting and home decorating. Who can resist a bright, sunny day and the urge to sweep away all those dust bunnies, take down old craft items and replace them with something new? My biggest quandary was deciding which idea to bring to fruition for this month’s craft. First there’s Father’s Day, then the beginning of summer, graduations, weddings! This was a tough one, I’ll admit. I finally decided to do something a little unique in honor of June brides. This craft should only take about two hours to complete, and only requires good printing or penmanship ability. The rest is simply painting and gluing.

In addition, this month’s idea can be adapted for wedding anniversaries as well. My version was created to honor the 25th wedding anniversary of my brother and his wonderful wife (hence, the silver hues). This particular object can serve well as an additional trinket given to the bride at her shower, something to enhance the usual gift of an iron or a gleaming new skillet. It might also be utilized as a precious memento that the bride’s mother could present to her daughter the morning of the ceremony. In any event, it also enhances the home as a stunning representation of a happy day.

Okay, shall we begin?

MATERIALS:

1. One heart shaped cardboard box with lid, about 6 – 8 inches in diameter.

2. One spool of ultra-thin silver (or the color of your choice to coordinate with the wedding colors) wired ribbon. About 1/8 inch wide will do fine.

3. One spool of white wedding lace (choose a pattern with a delicate edging, nothing too large or powerful to overtake the design). The lace should be anywhere from ¼ inch to ½ inch wide.

4. One package of wedding-themed gift-wrap paper.

5. One silver paint marker, ultra thin point.

6. One package of tiny, silk wedding flowers.

7. A photograph of the wedding couple. Make sure the images are small enough so that you can cut a circle around their faces and upper bodies in order to apply it to the top of the box.

8. One bottle of clear acrylic sealer.

9. One sponge tipped paintbrush.

10. One bottle of tacky glue.

11. Several silver dollars. I enclosed twenty-five for my brother’s gift. I felt the silver dollars enhanced the presentation of the gift, rather than simply placing the money in a card.

DIRECTIONS:

1. Begin by tracing two hearts using the bottom of the box onto the wrapping paper. Then carefully wrap the paper around the side of the box, both inside and outside, measure the length and width, and mark with a pencil.
