Easter is perhaps my favorite holiday of the year. It certainly runs a close tie with Christmas, but it doesn’t require all the preparation, decoration and gift buying that the Christmas season usually demands. Instead, it helps us to celebrate one of my favorite seasons and necessitates only the preparation of our traditional Easter foods, our children’s Easter baskets, and a few tasteful and carefully laid out bunnies and wreaths to bring forth that festive atmosphere in our home. I adore the Easter egg hunts, when our children scramble with the other little tykes on a deep green lawn, searching for tiny eggs containing a chocolate or trinket. The kids look so cute with their baskets on their arms and dressed in the pretty pastels that we were finally able to take out of the closet after a long, cold winter.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the joy the Christmas season brings, but for me, Easter is easier and gives us more of an opportunity to take our time and really enjoy our family. And who can resist the wonderfully sunny weather with just that hint of warmth in the air in our region? This month’s craft is a quickie, which is why I love these wreaths. Usually, wreaths do not require any type of glue, just a little floral wire, flowers, and ribbon, and they’re ready to go! *Note: This wreath can also be modified slightly by purchasing different accessories (or, omitting the rabbit and "Happy Easter" sign) in order to serve as a simple springtime wreath to display on your front door the entire season. I have selected flowers and materials that reflect my personal preferences. Please feel free to choose your own items and colors that show off your personality and creative flair. MATERIALS: 1. One 18 inch grapevine wreath. 2. Three to four bunches of silk flowers (I chose large, medium and small spring flowers with two bunches of baby’s breath). 3. Two rolls of wire-edged or regular ribbon, at least 4 yards or longer in length. I selected a pretty plaid with bright colors to celebrate the arrival of spring. 4. One 8 inch stuffed bunny. (I purchased mine at the dollar store). 5. One small wooden sign with post (.99 at the craft store). 6. One small straw doll’s hat (.49 at the craft store). 7. One pastel acrylic paint and one black paint pen. 8. One roll of florist wire. DIRECTIONS: 1. Start with the grapevine wreath and flowers. Since I selected flowers of varying sizes, I placed different sizes randomly around the wreath for a “balanced,” yet not too planned effect. Simply stick the ends of the flowers deep inside the vines, and secure with floral wire. Go To Page: 1 2
