Autumn Harvest Wreath

This month's craft will be a simplistic, but beautiful front door wreath. Total construction time? About one hour, from start to finish. It requires minimal materials, and is very inexpensive to create and embellish.

Materials:

1. One 18 inch grapevine wreath (look for these on special at the craft stores, I managed to purchase mine for a mere $1.69 on sale).

2. 3-4 small bunches of plastic fall fruits or vegetables (dried fruits will work well also).

3. 2-3 bunches of silk fall leaves.

4. 2-3 bunches of mini Indian corn cobs.

5. Wire-edged ribbon, 18 yards long, approximately 2 inches wide, in fall colors (sheer ribbons look especially nice).

6. Floral wire (to attach to the back of the wreath for hanging and securing ribbon and fruits to wreath).

Now to Get Started!

1. Once you have all your materials, begin by sticking bunches of leaves firmly into the grapevine wreath.

2. Pull the leaves apart and shape them so that they cover nearly three-quarters of the wreath. Turn the leaves so that the veins show on top. Use wire wherever you feel the need to secure a leaf into position.

3. Leaves should have a nice full appearance once you've shaped them.

4. Using the wire, attach fall fruits and/or vegetables inside little "pockets" created by the leaves and along the bare grapevine. Nest the fruits together, positioning along the entire circumference of the wreath.

5. Secure the Indian corncobs onto the wreath with wire. Fill in any empty spots on the wreath with the tiny corncobs.

6. Weave roughly nine yards of wire ribbon around the wreath, carefully tucking the edges inside of the leaves or fruits when necessary. Continue until you have circled the ribbon around the entire wreath.

Making the Bow:

The advent of wire-edged ribbon has greatly decreased my ribbon and bow blunders! Now I use it all the time on my crafting projects. It's so easy to do!

1. First, tie a regular bow loosely, using about 4 ½ yards of ribbon.

2. "Plump" the loops until they are quite large, and pull slightly until the "ties" are about two inches long. Tie another bow, using the same technique and the same amount of ribbon.

3. Cut a six-inch piece of wire, and place each bow, one on top of the other, so that the centers are in perfect alignment.

4. Secure these bows together with the wire, twisting it tightly underneath to secure the one gigantic bow.
