PRODUCTOPIA - FOR PRODUCT REVIEWS AND INFORMATION
Productopia is the best search engine I've come across for finding reviews and information about a wide variety of products - ranging from air conditioners to luggage to water skis. You can search either by keyword or use the subject directory of products. The amount of product information given varies by category.
For many of the product categories, Productopia produces original reviews of the three best products rated according to three different criteria - quality, style, and value (nine product reviews altogether). There are also user reviews, product message boards and basic information about product categories including buying tips.
Every product category includes extremely useful links to websites that contain product-related information (Related Links) .For example, there are links to specialized sites which provide reviews of particular types of products, informational sites about the product category, and a list of major manufacturers of the product that have websites. Trying to search for this information on your own would take hours.
SoandSo.com - A QUICK ROUTE TO BRAND NAMES AND COMPANIES
SoandSo.com's purpose is to provide quick access to the websites of companies and brand names that interest you. Although there are many other sites providing company information, SoandSo.com's orientation is to the products the companies produce.
SoandSo.com is not an ideal place to search for stock information, earnings, or any other financial or company information (although some of the company websites include this type of data). However, the great majority of company sites listed contain extensive information (including pictures) relating to the products they produce.
Search Tips
As far as I can tell, SoandSo.com's search algorithm is not equipped to handle any search operators, including quotation marks to designate a phrase. If you enter haagen-dazs ice cream, you will call forth a list that includes not only Haagen-Dazs, but also any site with the word ice or cream in the name, for example, Cream of Wheat. However, if the company has more than one division and you enter the company name plus a product (e.g., panasonic vcr), you'll get a list of the company's divisions and subsidiaries.
