Language, Display and Filtering Options Here you'll find several menu options for searches in Google. These include choices of 10 languages, selection of the number of results per page, and the option for child-safe filtering.
Special Search Features
Maps: You can type a specific address in the search box and Google will display links to Yahoo! Maps and MapBlast. Clicking on one of these links will display a street map of the address you entered.
Dictionary Definitions: Google will link you to definitions of your search words (although this is not indicated on Google's search page). After you do a search, the first line Google displays tells you the number of results for your search words and how long the search took. If your search words are underlined, you can click on them and be connected to definitions gathered by dictionary.com. Usually, there are definitions from several dictionaries.
Specialized Topic Searches: There are five choices of specialized web searches. Government Search accesses U.S. government websites (federal, state and city agencies, committees, etc.).
University Search allows you to limit your search to a university's website. It's excellent for finding information about admissions requirements, courses, professors, library holdings, writings about specific subjects, etc. Finally, there are separate searches of websites relevant to Linux, Apple Macintosh and BSD.
Enhanced Results
Results: Each result includes the title, a description, the url and the size. In addition there are two links to special services, cached and similar pages.
Cached Web Pages: Clicking on the cached link displays the web page that Google originally indexed for the particular url. The cached web page has two significant advantages. One is that it's always available, even when the website it originated from is down or unavailable for any reason. The other is that your search words are highlighted. If a web page has a great deal of text, this can be a great timesaver. A disadvantage is that the cached web page may not be the most recent version.
Similar pages: Selecting similar pages will retrieve a list of web pages similar to the one you selected. I've had mixed results with this feature.
I'm Feeling Lucky: To the far right of the search box there's a button with the words I'm Feeling Lucky. Clicking on this button instead of the Google Search button will transport you to directly to the first website on the results list. However, it will not return a list of results.
