Search Engine Reviews: AOL NetFind, Snap and Galaxy

There's a well-designed subject directory catering to children's interests, as well as their own help page.

Other AOL NetFind features include white pages, yellow pages, an e-mail finder, news, shopping, horoscopes and sports.

SNAP - COMPREHENSIVE WEB SEARCHES COMBINED WITH AN EXCELLENT DIRECTORY

Snap has many virtues. It's directory is detailed and well-done. Its web searches are powered by Inktomi, one of the most powerful and comprehensive systems. And it has some valuable special features.

An Outstanding Special Feature: Don't overlook Local, a helpful, timesaving feature that can provide a wealth of information about your community. Just enter your zip code, and you'll be presented with a wide-ranging subject directory of sites relating to your locality, with such topics as education, employment, sports, lodging, etc.

In addition Local includes links to local classified ads, TV schedules, maps, yellow pages, white pages, and more. It's nice to be able to get this information quickly, all in one place.

Snap's many other features include a stock page, games, classifieds, yellow and white pages, music, science fiction, and others.

To do more refined searches, go to Advanced Search. A drop-down menu above the search box gives you many options, for example searching for words in the page title, entering a Boolean phrase, or searching for links to a url.

There are menu boxes where you can specify whether your terms must, should, or must not appear in your results. You can also restrict your search by date, media type (e.g. image, audio), specific domains (e.g. edu, com), countries and languages.

Results: At the beginning of each web search results list, Snap provides a list of relevant websites from its directory. Each directory item or web page result contains the item's title, description, and url.
