Surviving Vacation Bloopers

Use your best judgment here. If it looks bad, ask for something else if possible. If not, take the gear and try it out in a pool or shallow area near shore. You are betting your life on this stuff, so it better work and it's your responsibility to check it out.

8. Montezuma's revenge . . .
Always bring along some form of upset stomach remedy. Drink lots of bottled water; don't trust the tap stuff if you're out in the boonies. Be aware of drinks with ice in them made from tap water and be careful what and where you eat.

9. You lose your wallet/credit card/glasses . . .
Contact the hotel, resort, or dive boat immediately. Get on the phone and cancel the credit cards. Alert everyone to be on the lookout for these items and they may turn up. If you can't see without your glasses or contacts, take a spare. Contact the local US embassy if you are in a foreign country and suddenly find yourself the victim of crime and without money.

10. You think you feel a tingling . . .
Notify the divemaster immediately. Call DAN (you are a responsible diver so you're already insured, right?) and get their recommendation for medical attention or chamber treatment. Don't wait to see if it goes away. Quick oxygen treatment is important in alleviating the symptoms and ensuring a full and complete recovery.
