subroutines are a feature of Fortran, so they have been appealing
tools for many scientific researchers.
Unfortunately, the use of subroutines can't solve all of the
organizational problems of a researcher working on a code with
multiple functionalities. It is precisely because of this that
many scientists recently have turned to C or even C++ when
creating their most sophisticated codes. As we'll see next time,
these languages offer several features which can help the programmer
avoid having to face his own ball of tangled twine.
