Now, let's visit a geyser online. Let me see. Where should we go, hmmm. I know! Yellowstone National Park . This is a great site, but you have heard me say that before. Start the tour by visiting the various basins. A geyser basin is just an area that contains a group of geysers. Once you have finished strolling around the basins, you can visit each geyser individually. Read about the geyser then play the movie to see it erupt. You will need a program such as RealPlayer in order to view the video. After you have finished being amazed by the geysers, continue on to read about the underlying geological feature of Yellowstone Park. There is a written text and a movie explaining the formation of the caldera. For a definition of the word caldera visit USGS's Photo Glossary of Volcanic Terms .
Lastly, visit Inside Old Faithful for an account of what scientists saw when they lowered a camera down inside. Unfortunately, one thing they did discover was that the hot water was depositing silica on the walls of the vent. Old Faithful will eventually become clogged and will die. Let's hope that fate is a long ways in the future. Go To Page: 1 2
