One thing that is great about the Internet is that it allows you to do something virtually that you might not have done in person. What am I talking about? Well, I have never explored a cave. Why? Fear probably. But caves are fascinating. Now you and I don't have to miss out. We can do it online right from our own living rooms. Forget about your claustrophobia and let's start exploring.

Caving is the recreational exploration of caves, while speleology is the scientific study of caves. Caving is on the upswing as people look for outdoor activities that combine exercise with an educational purpose. First let's get a brief overview of caves . Here you will find the word cave defined as well as other terms associated with caves. There is a short explanation on how caves are formed. Ready to start exploring caves? Put on your hard hat and get your flashlight. First stop, Tucson Arizona and Colossal Cave. Study the map to get orientated, then get going. I took the virtual tour of the cave but found the pictures somewhat small. Still, I enjoyed my trip to Colossal Cave.

I found a cave in the most unlikely place! Under the desert in Saudi Arabia . There is a very brief section on how the caves were formed - to brief. But the picture gallery is awesome. This site is unique in that it has narratives (or reports) written by spelunkers, detailing their actual exploration of the caves. Makes for exciting reading.

Caves are interesting for a lot of reasons. The caves of Lascaux France are know for the paintings on their walls. It has become one of the most renowned archaeological discoveries of the 20th Century. Visit this site to learn how the caves were discovered, see the paintings and learn why the caves were subsequently closed to the public.
