Fog

Jun 1, 2005 - © Zany

Did you know that researchers have found that California redwoods act as a natural drip irrigation system during the dry summer months? Although it never rains from May to November along California's north coast, fog is always present. One 100' tall redwood can gather about 4 inches of rain in just one foggy night! The fog feeds or supplies the forest with much needed water. The dense, needled foliage traps water droplets and sheds them to the ground. Amazing.
