Nordic Numerology and Dreams© Lauri Jean Crowe
Nordic numerology is tied intricately with the working of the runes, using numerological interpretations. Basic to this numerological system is that by assigning a rune a numerological equivalent, you can discern the magical or spiritual nature of an inscription using the runic alphabet. Now, the study of the runes is a lifelong endeavor, but I thought it important to note this numerological philosophy because although it works best with those acquainted with a Germanic tradition is shows how vastly numerological theories can differ in their assignment of certain characteristics to numbers.
2 - cooperation, tandem forces working together, physical strength, power of pairs 3 - holy number, complete process, function at the root of dynamism, completion and quickening 4 - stasis, solidity, waiting, power contained, cardinal directions 5 - ordered time, ordered space, legal matters, invocations 6 - vibrant life, vibrant strength, creation, destruction 7 - death, passive contact, other worlds, astrology 8 - completion, manifestation, wholeness, symmetry 9 - holist number, root of cosmic powers, psychological powers, intent, will If you read the article on Pythagorean Numerology you can see that Nordic Numerology differs in that it does not necessarily pair opposites, but rather has opposites contained within the numerical assignment. For example, the number 6 is assigned both the power of creation, and of destruction which many would consider natural opposites. Additionally, the number 2 is specifically assigned the power of pairs rather than being paired with the number 1 as its opposite. However, a similarity exists here too: 1 is associated with solitary force, while 2 is associated with tandem forces working together. As you can see from these two forms of numerology, there is no one right way to work with this system. Rather there are many (and we shall learn about a couple more in upcoming articles) all based on differing cosmologies of the world, all seeking to bring order out of chaos, which is why we study our dreams in the first place in many cases. As to Nordic Numerology, this has been offered mainly as an alternative listing of possible attributes than an in depth look of how this system can be used to decipher runic inscriptions. There are many excellent Rune related resources on the web, and although I have been personally using runes in both personal magical as well as dream work for nearing on two decades now, I am not an expert. I know how the rune streams operate in my life, but would not consider proclaiming myself any form of expert qualified to interpret your dreams as they relate to runic symbolism. Go To Page: 1 2
