Introduction to Numerology and Dreams© Lauri Jean Crowe
Although there is no doubt in my mind that numerology has existed in concept and action long before, we'll look to the nineteenth century when the idea of a vibrating universe came into being. Occultists and philosophers developed the theory that everything in the universe has a specific vibration, and that every individual also has a specific vibration separate from that of others. Where numerology fits into this conception is through the use of a numerical system of 1-9 (some feel 1-8 which we'll learn about in a future article) which cages the vibratory essence so to speak into a system which can be used empirically. By studying the cycle of vibration, the numbers 1-9, you are merely extending the vibratory principles into a working framework which can create a complete cycle of vibration in this school of thought.
In the typical numerological instrument, there are nine basic rates of vibration, or nine notes to which the instrument sounds. Each of the nine strings represents a person, place or thing and each vibrates at its own speed, making its individual sound. All of the string sounds overlap and combine to create the vibration of the instrument (or person) in the universe. Therefore, every person has their own particular note. The way in which this relates to dream research is in noting the presence of any of the individual strings in your dreams which make up you, the metaphorical instrument of numerology. Now, obviously many of us have more than nine strings of activity going on in our lives, but it may be useful to note the nine predominant areas of your life which are continual in your dreams. For me they are, in no particular order: 1. Health 2. Children 3. Sexuality 4. Career 5. Creativity 6. Spirituality 7. Social Aspects 8. Glimpse of the Future 9. Alternate Worlds This list comes from my years of dream research into my own personal mythos and seeking out the predominant themes from my dreams. Each can go down into further subcategories, but predominantly these are the main areas I dream of regularly, some like Alternate Worlds even have distinct, regular characteristics which build each time I dream of them, like a forward going memory.
