© Lauri Jean Crowe

When you undertake the practice of lucid dreaming, or any dream study for that matter, the dream journal is one of your most invaluable tools. It is where you are able to storehouse the memories you recall from the dream state along with images, feelings, and dream narrative. As you consider the type of dream journal you want to keep, you may wish to go over my past articles on various types of dream journals:

Additionally, you may wish to incorporate specific standard features into your dream journal which can help you regularly track evidence of lucid dreams in an empirical format. Some of the heading areas you may wish to include are:

Initiation of Lucidity - here you would list what started your realization that you were lucid. Did it begin from a waking state or from within the dream, etc.

Stress Factors - here you would list both factors in your waking daily life, as well as in the dream which contributed to your sensation of lucidity.

Physical/Non-Physical Realism - here you would keep track track of specific incidences in the dream which made you aware of being lucid or incongruties which alerted you that you were in a dream state.

Texture - here you could note sensations such as feeling, taste, audible texture like sound, and other factors of the five sensations of smell, taste, touch, hearing and sight.

Emotional Quality - in this section you would note the incidence of fear, joy or other emotions that you felt during the lucid aspect of your dream.

Control Factors - this portion of your dream journal would relate to any actions you consciously performed in the midst of the lucid dream, specific hand gestures, speech, healing, flight or other actions.

Analysis & Overview - here you could keep a record of your thoughts immediately folloqing the dream as well as leave a section for later reflection on the overall status of your lucid dreaming efforts and processes.
