Kristo Interpretation: "Dream of Beetles"I notice that where my thumbprints should be are beetles. Kristo: Beetles are rather sacred insects in terms of Egyptian mythology (which is very much part of our cultural heritage in the West). The sacred scarab was seen as essential to rolling the ball of the sun across the sky. Insects in general tend to represent feelings in dreams. That's because feelings are very often like so many flies, always getting in the way of a perfect moment of relaxation. In this dream, we don't quite know what the beetles mean...but there is a peculiar sense that something as completely individual as a thumbprint should be replaced by such a transpersonal organism. There is also a funny hint that perhaps beetles have something to do with the individuality or personal signature of the dreamer. It's almost as though everything she touches would leave the mark of the beetle or scarab. It's also as though there is something about her that would tend to leave behind the tell-tale mark of one who is responsible for the daily passage of the sun. Jung often spoke of the American Indians of the southwest whom he met and bonded with...and of their contention that when the government finally forced them to abandon their tribal religion, there would be no one left to help the sun to rise every day. Psychologically speaking, this is no joke. To be deprived of your most sacred, personal and vital beliefs is to be stripped of the ability to live in any form of light and consciousness. I start to peel one off my finger, stepping out of the tree's shade into the sun to see better. Kristo: A naturally curious individual would certainly be doing something similar, if not completely panicking. There is no panic, suggesting that this is nearly a natural occurrence. In sacred time and in a sacred space, all unusual phenomena cease to be unusual. They acquire a character that seems to promise synchronistic communication from the numen of the space. Stepping out of the shade into the sun seems to mean a bringing to consciousness whatever message this strange occurrence might have. It also re-emphasizes the role of the sun in this situation. There is a connecting of beetle and sun that takes place as if by magic ordination. It peels up easily to reveal yet another beetle. Kristo: This is where the idea of the sun gets re-amplified. peeling up one
