Interview With Kristo: Part One

LJC: How do you feel your interpretations using Jungian Analysis help clients decipher the images coming from the unconscious?

KRISTO: I would first say that Jungian interpretations themselves are simply a way of naming the themes that seem to naturally emerge in the Psyche. These are the archetypal / transpersonal themes that reassert themselves over and over in dreams, fantasies, myths, visions, synchronistic events and fairy tales. We don't have to re-invent the psychic/psychological wheel. Instead...and this is the crucial issue...we must experience re-inventing it in an extremely personal way over and over again in terms of the particulars of our own lives. Taking the literal events and showing the timeless metaphor that underlies them...the symbolic/transpersonal/archetypal story...is to reassure ourselves and our clients that suffering through the personal emotional process at hand HAS MEANING. That it has ALWAYS had meaning and that the process is not simply an ordeal of illegitmate and meaningless suffering. The images can then be connected back and forth between the timeless and the particular to show that there we are connected to something larger than our ego-selves. This process enlarges one's perspective and actively feeds the soul. As Marion Woodman has said...metaphor is the food of the soul...to which I would simply add...it is the language of the deity.

Check back next month when I ask Kristo what his favorite Jungian archetype is, how he feels his OBGYN work influences and/or enhances his dream work and what he'd ask Carl Jung if he found the man in his livingroom! Please feel free to post questions or comments on this interview to the discussion forum.
