Interview With Kristo: Part OneWho is Kristo? The name on his birth certificate is Curtis Christopher Cates. That title is followed by the initials M.D. although he no longer practices traditional allopathic medicine. He's trained at many facilities, among them the University of Bologna in Italy, which has a reputation of having formally trained it's doctor's in medical astrology back in the Middle Ages. Whether you are in need of recovering your soul, enhancing a relationship, wondering what your dreams mean in Jungian symbolism or how to get out of a deep depression while reading your daily horoscope there is something for you at his website. After several email interactions I decided to interview Kristo, even though I typically do not endorse sites that offer dream interpretations. He is a sincere individual, who honestly wishes to help people through his teachings and way of life. It may not be the one I have chosen for myself, but it may be one you are in alignment with and he definitely knows his Jung. I Hope you enjoy the interview and will check out his website which offers the option of posting you dream for online analysis, dream seminars on location in Chicago, and via email as well as a host of astrology services and great links that express Kristo's diverse interests from health, dreams and astrology to the fine arts and pagan resources. LJC: Jung theorized that dreams serve 2 functions, 1. to compensate for internal imbalances and 2. to assist the dreamer in the individuation process by providing prospective images of the future. What additional function(s) would you theorize dreams have? KRISTO: According to Jung...one of the most fascinating aspects of the dream is the fact that it serves as a kind of state of the psyche message. In the sense that the dream is the voice of the Deity speaking about the truth of the soul, one can actually begin to understand what the implications of daily choices and attitudes have concerning the direction of one's conscious life. Paying attention to the Unconscious becomes a way of checking the map...which (because of the nature human consciousness) is more often understandable only in hindsight, rather than prospectively. We're very often impressed in hindsight by those predictive, synchronistic occurrences...but by and large, our most mundane seeming dreams speak volumes about the past and how (if understood) it can impact the future through a seemingly small, but important shift in attitude. Jung also spoke of the cyclic nature of dreams. If a dream series is studied over the course of time, one can see events taking place in the psyche very similar to the seasons. Certain images and symbols grow and develop...and if one were to pay attention, the proper time for harvest...for taking conscious action...would reveal itself. The cycle then becomes a spiral, enlarging our perspective and shifting our attitude. If the opportunities are not harvested...autumn and winter set in...and the opportunities are no longer available. Life itself assumes a kind of wintry, barren aspect until a psychic spring re-asserts itself...and once again the cycle presents itself.
