Wow! I'd planned to delve into some sites of entertainment value in the realm of dream
interpretation this month, but instead I find myself bursting to tell you about a site I just ran
across doing some research on the web!! It's become one of my new favorites!!
This site offers a look at dreams with an emphasis on biotopographical psychology, wherein the selection of an individuals' roles in their culture, along with societal rites of passage are reflected in their personal dream symbology. At first you might think, "so what -- who cares about other people's personal mythos?" but the thing is, through his years as a psychology counselor Mark Hagen began to see patterns emerge amongst his patients; social trends reflected in common dream symbols and pointing to the reality of thought language and memory. Hence, we have access to a site dedicated to the exploration of a symbolic construction of social reality in the dream, and a means of members of a culture to develop techniques for assigning meaning to their environment. It isn't new theory, but it is definitely intriguing and valuable theory for the student of the self and the dream. You will find and REM Journal, which focuses on biographies of shattered dreams brought about by the influences of social pressures, some great articles on various aspects of the dream, chat rooms, a dream bank, workshops, and accredited course through Mohawk College, and an area to submit your own dreams for interpretation. What impressed me most was reading Hagen's response to a dreamer "Margaret" who submitted a dream to the site. His response to her was, "These are just some associations that come to mind from your dream. Please let me know if there is any truth to them." This showed me that Hagen is truly interested in dream research, and not luring people in to a false sense of security and reality. He offers suggestions based on his years of experience, as much as he offers interpretations. The purpose of this site is to advance the study of the dream, and educate individuals on the possibilities inherent within biotopographical psychology. Through studying social trends in dreaming, Hagen is developing a dictionary of the symbols found in dreams. Although this too, may result in just another dream dictionary -- it seems to have more value than pure Go To Page: 1 2
