Resolve to Volunteer
The Goudreau Museum of Mathematics in Art and Science in New Hyde Park, New York, promotes interest in mathematics for all ages or knowledge levels. Among choices for volunteer workers are newsletter writing, art / photography, repairing polyhedra models and work with the public. At the Boston Museum of Science 650 volunteers work alongside staff. Enthuse visitors to computer, live animal and life science exhibits. Be a guide or mentor students in various labs, or interpret science for seniors. As you might guess, there are tons more opportunities. At the Montshire Museum of Science in Norwich, Vermont you can become an Explainer who demonstrates exhibits and informal science activities, and make presentations. Trail Guides escort visitors along Montshire's woodland trails or help with special events. Others get involved in exhibit research and design, production and repairs or landscaping. Office, gift shop and fundraising work is also available. Are you intrigued? Ready to meet new people and make friends who share your interests? As if these 'jobs' weren't reward enough, most museums offer perks to their volunteers that can include free parking, free admission and discounts on merchandise and/or programs. As the kids say, - sweet.
