Lastly, when I approach a subject about which I am clueless, I head straight for the kiddie section. I get a grounding in the basics that is both accessible and enjoyable. In this vein, avail yourself of an online treat developed by middle and high school students called ThinkQuest's Designer Genes. It covers all aspects of genetics and bioengineering, and there is a quiz, if you feel ready to test your new knowledge.
